Dr Robert J Daniels

MA, MB BChir (Cambridge 1995) MRCGP, FHEA

After training in Cambridge I worked as a junior doctor in Norwich, Exeter and Western Australia before moving to the South West. As well as working as a GP, I work as a GP Specialist in Ear, Nose and Throat medicine. I work for Devon Doctors a couple of times a month and I am also medical director of Devon Health, a company owned by GP practices that provides additional service to the NHS.

In addition to working as a doctor I am an academic tutor and small group teacher at the University of Exeter Medical School. I have written several textbooks and occasionally do some work for NEW Devon CCG. I am also involved in several projects to improve health and education in Rwanda, working with the university of Kigali.

When not working I enjoy mountaineering, mountain biking and water sports. I have been on seven charity expeditions working as a doctor and now have the dubious distinction of having suffered both altitude sickness and the bends!

I have been to all but one of the continents and will be going to Antarctica as soon as I can persuade my wife to let me!

I started off in the Midlands and moved to Bristol to attend medical school. I moved further in to the South West to complete my GP training on the West Somerset Coast and have worked throughout the county. Now moving to Devon, by the coast, there’s not much further south I can go without acquiring a boat!

Being completely converted to the South west coastline, countryside and lifestyle, in my spare time I try to be outside as much as possible; exploring. I enjoy travelling whether 3 months training and working in India, trekking in Nepal or failing to surf in Australia. I also enjoy photography and often combine the two with varying degrees of success!

My training based mainly in London included a stint in the Shetland Islands. I am delighted to be a GP partner in beautiful East Devon and I also provide urgent out-of-hours care at Devon Doctors. I have provided duty doctor care for the infamous Grizzly challenge and who knows, one day I might even attempt to run in it!

Outside work I enjoy spending time with my young family, improving my tennis serve and playing jazz piano.  I also embrace the great outdoors whenever possible, whether paddle boarding in the sea, skiing overseas or doing battle with my garden lawn.

MBChB (Bristol 2015), MRCGP

I graduated from Bristol University in 2015 and have worked in and around Exeter ever since. It’s definitely true when they say ‘South West is best’.

Outside of work, you will mostly find me exploring the South West coast path or the East Devon Way with my fur baby, Herbie. I also love doing yoga and fitness classes from the comfort of my lounge. I have also found a new love in cross-stitching whilst trying to keep myself occupied during lockdown!
