A Letter To Our Patients

Dear Patients,

I am writing to you on behalf of Townsend House Medical Centre. Like all sectors of the health service, we are currently experiencing exceptional levels of demand, and some patients cannot always get appointments as quickly as they might like. In the last six months’ the practice has dealt with 109,031 telephone calls, which is only one element of the day to day work. Our staff are working under enormous pressure to do their jobs as best as they can with the resources available.

We have remained open for patients throughout the pandemic, and all of our team have made personal sacrifices and taken personal risks to support our patients through this unprecedented global pandemic. On top of this they have all given up a lot of their free time to roll out a hugely successful vaccination campaign in our local hospital, to allow patients to have their covid vaccines locally, rather than travel to Taunton or Exeter.

Unfortunately a very small minority of patients have been verbally abusive to our staff, which is unacceptable. This is a very small minority, and the vast majority of our patients are polite and respectful. Whilst we would like to thank the majority of our patients for their support and patience during these challenging times, we must insist that the small minority who are aggressive and abusive treat our staff with the same respect they would wish to be treated with.

We have a zero tolerance policy at the practice, and abusive or aggressive behaviour, after a warning, will result in a removal from the practice.

Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

Once registered, patients and healthcare professionals work together to ensure the most appropriate care is provided. This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction. 

 

Parking at Townsend House

There is limited on-site parking at our surgery but what is available is for the use of our patients and visitors only.

 

How To Access Health Services When The Surgery Is Closed

Between the hours of 6pm and 8am should you have an emergency please call 999. If you require medical advice please call NHS 111.

You can also access the GP's via our online consultation service through our website. Some of our local pharmacies may also treat minor illness conditions.

Online Consultation Service - eConsult

There are many common illnesses that do not require a GP appointment, these conditions can be treated by a visit to the pharmacy and/or buying over the counter medicines.

Examples include (but are not limited to) Acute Sore Throat, Conjunctivitis, Coughs and Colds, Earwax, Infant Colic, Insect Bites, Mild cystitis, Minor Pain, Discomfort and Fever.
